Lasting Health Changes in Rwanda

While we have many amazing partners in Rwanda, Lea Bazimenyera and her team are exceptional. Despite the challenges and restrictions of COVID, they were able to train 42 volunteers who dedicated 2,243 volunteer hours in order to impact 2,143 children and families in their community. The area has always been one of high need, but the redirection of health resources in their nation (like many others) resulted in the strong rise in neglected health conditions. They observed a 100% infection rate for the intestinal parasitic worms, Ascariasis and Hookworm. However, they observed a steady decline in infection rates over the past several months, and they know they will move towards complete eradication as they continue to reinforce good hygiene behaviors.
