These gripping photos tell the story of the pain of a NTD. These sweet children in the village of Gisigati, Congo are getting treated for the awful Neglected Tropical Disease, Jiggers. The treatment to remove the Jiggers can be painful, but much easier than living with them. Deformation of the hands and feet make walking and holding items hard. Sadly the physical hardship is only one piece. The person usually is stigmatized and an outcast from their community. Children would not be allowed to attend school or play as with others without the disease. We are so grateful our SMM Grant Recipient Jacques Nsengiyumva and his team for training and treating this village on the prevention and eradication of Jiggers.
